Time to dig for gold in the USA?

It's been an exciting 31 years since Sweden won bronze at the World Cup in the United States in 1994. Now it's time for what is perhaps the strongest national team in many years to repeat the feat. With offensive stars such as Alexander Isak, Dejan Kulusevski, Viktor Gyökeres and Anthony Elanga, the conditions are clearly in place to reach the finals. A young, hungry generation of players such as Hugo Larsson, Lucas Bergvall and Yasin Ayari are eager to play on the biggest stage in the world's most powerful sporting event.

How will Sweden qualify for the 2026 World Cup?

The winner of each of the twelve qualifying groups will qualify directly for the World Cup finals in the United States, Canada and Mexico in 2026. Four additional places in the World Cup finals will be decided in a playoff involving the twelve runners-up in the World Cup qualifiers and the four highest-ranked group winners from the 2024 Nations League (from the remaining teams).
The playoff will be decided in spring 2026 in four groups, with semi-finals and finals played in single matches.

Sweden won its group in the Nations League and can also reach the playoffs that way, depending on which other teams win their qualifying groups.
