Our digital highways are vulnerable! Sweden must implement contingency measures for its digital infrastructure.

Just as civil defence shelters are now being reviewed in society, we need to build resilient digital infrastructure that will enable our society to continue functioning even if communication cables are sabotaged. The damaged cable in the Baltic Sea is a wake-up call.
When a significant portion of our data is stored on infrastructure that is not Swedish or European, and the information is located outside our national borders, cutting a data cable is an effective way to damage and destabilise a country.
We therefore call on the Swedish government to take decisive action when it comes to investing in digital infrastructure. This would not only create a more robust Sweden, but also contribute to increased Swedish entrepreneurship, innovation and employment.
‘A severed cable is a potentially effective weapon of war. It costs little, is difficult to prove guilt for, and can have a potentially enormous impact on Swedish society as a whole. We need to act now to build up our resilience, write eight representatives of Swedish tech companies.’
